Theme of the 1st İstanbul Architecture Festival
İstanbul Architecture Festival, in its inaugural year, has set its sights on "youth." Under the heading "Light But Heavy," the festival concentrates on the theme of youth and a number of activities set around this theme will bring the architectural agenda to the forefront: The distribution of the first AMV Young Architect Award which will be granted each year to a young architect under the age of 40 and the exhibition of the projects of the winning architect (or architects), the declaration and presentation of Turkey's participation to Europan, a series of international competitions organized with the participation of architects under the age of 40 and conducted with a common theme around Europe with the aim of realizing the award winning projects, an exhibition of the last award winning Europan projects, a Youth at Work (Genç/iş/lik) series made up of "charrette" and "workshop" projects which will be realized with the participation of young architects and architecture students, conferences where architects will narrate the output of their youth, a discussion platform under the heading "Being Young in Architecture" embracing the theme of the festival, a conference of the Arkimeet series, thematic movie screenings on architecture, the exhibition of the award winning works of young architects invited to the festival, breakfasts bringing together the masters of the architectural world with young architects, meetings introducing the media world to architects and finally a big closing party are a few of the activities...

Besides many others, the Festival is another valuable contribution of Arkitera Architecture Center, on the fourth anniversary of its foundation, to the architecture world with the "youth" theme that fits with its own mission. Yes, the 1st İstanbul Architecture Festival invites you to think about the multi-layered world of being "young": Light But Heavy.
